Choosing Life

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Several years ago, we moved to Perryton, Texas where we met and bonded with many people.  These people have become a part of who we are today and will always hold a special place in our hearts.  One lady there, Ginger Hays, led and still leads the ladies Bible study.  Not only does she lead the Bible study, but she has also acquired many, many, many books over the years…mostly Christian fiction.  She generously shares these books with people in the church only asking for the books to be placed back in her Sunday school class “library” upon completion.  Although we left Perryton several years ago, she continues to mail boxes of books to me that I read and mail back to another friend in Perryton who then returns them to Ginger’s library.

I share that to introduce one of the books she loaned to me called One Tuesday Morning by Karen Kingsbury.  It is a wonderful  fiction novel about September 11th, but one thing in particular in that book stuck with me.  One of the main characters journaled in his Bible as he read and enjoyed Scripture.  One of the turning points of the book happens when another character stumbles upon Deuteronomy 30:19-20 where he had journaled something about choosing life…no matter the circumstances…when given the opportunity….choose life.  Although the text of Scripture was incorporated onto pages of fiction, I took those words to heart and so began a new leg of my journey with Jesus.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him.  For the Lord is your life…”    These verses have become my life’s passion…I will choose life at every opportunity….and this blog is my testimony of what choosing life is all about.

Over the years you have been a major part of my growth in Christ. I am once again thankful to get to “sit” and learn from what God is teaching you.
    Love you all

Under “favorite quotes” on my Facebook page I have two things – the quote by Jim Elliot, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose,” and this verse. So wonderfully powerful as is your life and its impact on others!!
